Greg Barker (“Lord Barker of Battle”) has chaired EVN since 2017 and has helped guide the Group on its journey to become the UK’s leading super-fast EV charging infrastructure business.

After an early City career in finance and investor relations, Greg helped lead the buy out and subsequent growth of the recruitment advertising business, Bartlett Scott Merton prior to its successful sale to TMP Worldwide in 2001.
That same year, he entered the House of Commons, representing Bexhill & Battle until 2015. An influential thought leader on the Green Economy and climate and energy policy, under Prime Minister Cameron he became the longest serving Energy Minister for a generation and remains the longest serving UK Climate Change Minister to date.
Credited by the former Chancellor George Osborne with the creation of the Green Investment Bank and widely recognised as a major architect of David Cameron’s pioneering Green agenda, which was a hallmark of Cameron’s early leadership, Greg Barker’s time in ministerial office was marked by the massive step change in the UK roll out of renewable and decentralised energy and after founding the Capital Markets Climate Initiative, the mobilisation of international climate finance.

Since leaving Government Greg Barker has chaired the London Sustainable Development Commission, advised Lightsource, Europe’s largest solar company, served as deputy chair of the Mexican roof-top solar business Ilios, engineering it’s ground breaking sale to Tesla and chaired Quercus, the European Renewable Energy asset manager until its successful sale in 2021. From 2017 to 2022 he chaired the London Stock Exchange listed En+, the world’s largest producer of low carbon aluminium, with global operations on five continents.

Under his corporate leadership, the metals and mining giant won numerous industry awards. Greg was an active stakeholder in the London Metals Exchange (LME), and in 2021, he was nominated by Platts for their prestigious Metals and Mining CEO of the year.

In 2020, Greg served for two successive years as chair of the World Bank’s “Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition” and in 2021 was awarded “Ambitious Climate Leader” status by the United Nations Global Compact. Greg has also served as a trustee of both the Environmental Defense Fund (Europe) and the Climate Group, and is a longstanding participant in the Energy Transition Forum.
In addition to his role at EVN, Lord Barker of Battle is currently an independent Non-executive Director of ME Group International, a FTSE 250 company, a strategic advisor to Powerhive, the pioneering East African mini-grid and e-mobility business, and a member of the board of Glassview, the innovative US neuro-powered media company. Greg is also a director of the Clean Growth Leadership Network ( “CGLN”), a Governor of Lancing College, a patron of the Garden Museum and a lifetime member of the Aldersgate Group.
