MP for Bexhill and Battle Greg Barker joined local Youth Parliament members Iola and Liam for a joint surgery at Claverham College on Friday as part of National ‘Takeover Day’, encouraging children and young people across the UK to work alongside adults and get involved in decision-making in a wide range of organisations.

Youth Parliament members from across the country had a taste of life at Westminster last week when they travelled to London to sit in the House of Commons. This week Iola and Liam teamed up with Greg in Battle to experience a local meeting and hear the concerns of their fellow students.

The lively discussion in the Claverham College school library gave young people from around the area the chance to ask their Youth Parliament members questions, and to discuss any issues they have.

Speaking in Battle, Greg said:

“We had a very interesting discussion covering a number of areas but obviously concerns about tuition fees were near the top of the agenda. It was good to be able to assure local young people that the Coalition remains absolutely committed to fair access to universities.”
