Greg welcomes Academy status for Bexhill High
26 July 2012
Greg has welcomed the announcement last Wednesday by Education Secretary of State, Michael Gove, that Bexhill High School is to be given academy status as terrific news for the town.
The local MP, who went to Bexhill High School in person last Friday to congratulate Principal Mike Conn, heard the news directly from the Secretary of State for Education at a meeting with Mr Gove on Wednesday.
Speaking at Bexhill High, Greg said “This is great news for the students, parents and staff who have been waiting anxiously for this news since they gave their support to the school’s academy application earlier this year. However this is just the start of an important project to raise the level of educational attainment in Bexhill and standards in all the core subjects so that our local children can be certain that they are going to get the best possible start in life.
I am sure the school will continue to build on their good progress and make the most of the opportunities that academy status will bring and I look forward to continuing to work closely with the Chair of Governors, Mr Brian Kentfield, Mr Conn and the whole team at Bexhill High.”
