Greg and Bexhill Mayor Mrs Joanne Gadd start local Jubilee celebrations with a Gala Charity Ball
7 June 2012
Nearly 150 people attended the Ball including the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Mr Peter Field with his wife Mrs Field and the High Sheriff of East Sussex, Mr David Allam also accompanied by his wife, Mrs Allam.
As Greg and Cllr Gadd greeted their guests, local ladies ‘a cappella’ choir Bexhill Harmony Singers provided delightful entertainment for those enjoying welcome drinks on the hotel lawns, on a thankfully dry and warm evening.
After a delicious dinner, the Lord Lieutenant proposed the Loyal Toast followed by short speeches from the Mayor and Greg in honour of the occasion and thanking distinguished guests and all those involved in helping to make the evening a success. Mrs Field then cut the wonderful celebratory cake specially made for the occasion.
Professional toastmaster, Mr Paul Mitchell, made sure the evening’s events kept to time and conducted the charity auction. Guests danced to the sounds of local band Tempo One and shortly before midnight the trumpeter sounded the last post before a grand firework display marked the end of a highly successful evening.
Speaking after the ball Greg said “Joanne and are absolutely delighted that the evening has been such a fabulous success and that we have managed to raise nearly £3000 for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Trust and the Mayor’s chosen local charity for “Dementia/Alzheimers”.
We should like to thank all of our guests who came to the ball and our primary sponsors Hastings Direct and Furness Controls Ltd for their generosity. We would like to extend our special thanks to Bexhill Harmony Singers for their delightful entertainment at the start of the evening and to Mr Paul Mitchell, our Professional Toastmaster and Master of Ceremonies, who gave their time so generously.
Our grateful thanks also go to our other sponsors and supporters including Torr Scientific Ltd, Lords Cricket Ground, England Cricket Team, Brighton Racecourse, Cooden Beach Golf Club, Cooden Beach Hotel, Aldwych Theatre, De La Warr Pavilion, Mr Simon Elford, Nobles Restaurant, Shiplu Restaurant, The Studio, Mr Floor, Heart, Scatterbox, Comet, Mr Floor and HSBC.
Finally, we should like to thank Mr James Kimber and the staff of the Cooden Beach Hotel, for a truly delicious meal and for looking after our guests so well. The hotel’s General Manager Jenny Undasan has been wonderful in helping to organise the ball and making sure everything ran smoothly on the night.”
