Greg calls for fairer access to school bus
Local MP Greg Barker has called for fairer access to school buses after meeting with parents in Mountfield whose village is split between those with free school bus access and those who have to pay.
Greg also met Chairman of the Parish Council, Colin Harmer and concerned parents who have to pay £600 per year per child for the bus to Robertsbridge Community College because they live on the wrong side of the village. The level crossing, which runs through Mountfield, has been designated as the cut-off point for free access to the Robertsbridge school bus.
Greg said: “It is just plain unfair that some children in Mountfield get a free school bus and others don’t. I am determined to work with the village to get a sensible and workable solution to his important issue. We need a review of the whole school transport arrangements to get more local kids out of cars and into buses but not at exorbitant fares that local hard working families can’t afford.”
